French, 19th century. A palatial Louis XV style walnut carved armoire having a arched cornice with pierced shell and C scroll cresting above a conforming paneled and foliate carved frieze over a pair of large hinged doors inset with shaped beveled mirrored panels (later) opening to an interior fitted with adjusting shelves centered with a small drawer over a scroll carved apron centered with shell and raised on front squat cabriole legs carved at the knee with foliage and terminating on scrolled toes. Back of armoire having stencil numbers '1816' and paper sticker 'Pontarlier De Lyon Perrache'. Approximate height 100.3", width 55", depth 19". Provenance: From the Private Collection of Ann Jacob of Highlands, North Carolina.
