American School, mid 20th century. "By the Chicken Coop"-1943, watercolor on paper, signed and dated lower right "Toni Atlanta GA JULY 43". Naive Southern watercolor painting depicting a path running down a hill flanked by two homes--one with an African American woman with pail on front porch with a chicken coop beside a black rooster and yellow chickens in fenced yard, two other figures hold hands and walk down the road--one with large hat, the other carrying a basket with fruit. Verso of sheet with fragment of floral still life work. Unframed sheet size approximately 15.125" x 22".
