William Dow (Scottish (Perth), active 1889 - 1926), late 19th/early 20th century. A fine silver filigree officer's sheath or dirk/dagger cover having a foliate decorated clip joined to chains mounted on either side of the elongated sheath having raised patterns in four sections: a crown with twisted threads; the Scottish thistle flower; a Maltese cross; profile bust of a knight and shield. All mounted on finely intricate filigree scrollwork. The backside also ornately designed with foliate and scroll filigree decoration. Hallmarked on the clip with double-headed eagle for Perth, 'Pth' mark possibly for Alexander Forbes Dalgleish of Perth, active 1890-1940, registered with the Glasgow Assay Office. Also "DOW" for William Dow who was active in Perth 1889- 1926. Approximate height 9", width 1.4". Total approximate weight 2.56 troy ounces.
