Continental School, first half of 20th century. Hand carved white alabaster Classical figural sculpture after the masterpiece by Bertel Thorvaldsen (Danish, 1770-1844) created by the artist during his time in Italy, "Hebe"-originally created in 1806. Carved figural sculpture depicting the cupbearer, Hebe, the goddess of youth from Greek mythology. Hebe (daughter of Zeus and Hera) depicted standing at full length with exposed breast wearing long draped gown, holding pitcher in one hand at thigh level, the opposite hand with small dish. Sculpture with attached dedicatory metal label on bottom of integral circular plinth base reading "Waukesha Women's Club 1933 Winifred Winans Donor". Unmarked. Overall approximate height 32.25".
