An impressive blue and white majolica glazed ceramic figural centerpiece, with figural bowl of roccai form with depiction of man with open mouth (likely an allegorical reference to the sea), bowl with scrolls and acanthus to the effect of wave patterning, interior of bowl with oceanic or marine painting with calm seas and a central large sailboat with a smaller sailboat in the distance, interior of bowl with indistinct signature "van Sneijder", neck with griffin form with wings outstretched with right arm extended forward with left arm extended behind with talons gripping s-croll and acanthus leaf forms to the effect of waves, with socle base, underside with maker's mark underglaze "WS&S", underside with underglaze numeral mark "4961", underside with additional in glaze insignia (maker's mark). Overall approximately 17" x 13.75" x 9".
