Style of Alexander Fraser (Scottish, 1828-1899). "A Clear October Day"-1882, oil on canvas, verso with inscription "A Clear October Day 1882 The 'Royal' Cottage Trossachs", verso monogrammed "THL". Figural landscape painting with loose impressionistic handling depicting small structure with thatched roof, likely in the Trossachs area of Scotland, with female figure carrying small basket on dirt path in lower left quadrant, with blue skies overhead. Framed approximately 22" x 27". Unframed approximately 13.5" x 18.75". Provenance: Property of the Estate of Dr. Woody Cobbs and Mrs. Honor Cobbs, Atlanta, Georgia. Note: The Trossachs is a small woodland glen in Scotland. The Trossachs was described in Sir Walter Scott's 1810 poem The Lady of the Lake, and notably, the leading Victorian art critic John Ruskin (English, 1819-1900) and the Pre-Raphaelite painter John Everett Millais (English,1829-1896) spent the summer of 1853 together in Trossachs.
