Chinese, 19th century Qing Dynasty (1644-1912) possibly older. A pair of carved limestone figural hitching posts, the stone possibly from the Shanxi Province, each comprising a tall rectangular base with vertical channels to two opposing sides and seated figural elephant to top, the elephants presented in mirrored positioning seated on back legs with straight front legs and head turned to one side with trunk curling back up toward ear, each with a carved frieze below elephant bearing floral and geometric decoration with remnants of paint. One approximately 50.75" tall, 7.25" x 7.5"; and the other approximately 50.25", 7" x 7.25".
