French, 19th century. A closely matched pair of Louis XVI style giltwood fauteuils or open armchairs, each having a straight crest rail centered with pierced carved ribbon-tied floral cresting, the entire frame decorated with husk carving and ribbon and floral tied reeding over the upholstered back and seat covered in fine silk damask style fabric, within padded scrolled open arms on fluted and foliate carved supports, above the bowfront seatrail raised on foliate wrapped cylindrical fluted legs, headed with patera blocks and terminating on toupie feet. Approximate height of one fauteuil 42.12", the other 42.25", width 26" (arm to arm), seat depth 19", seat height 17.5".
