Manner of Nathaniel S. Finney (American, 1813-1879). A finely decorated antique scrimshaw Walrus tusk decorated with 4 vignettes situated vertically to each side of the slightly curving body, one side with a fully rigged clipper ship on the high seas; the American seal with a bald eagle perched atop a shield form and clutching a ribbon in its mouth inscribed "E Pluribus Unum"; a depiction of Lady Liberty holding a shield in one hand and a peace dove holding laurel leaf in her other hand; and a small island with two palm trees - the other side with an arrangement of flowers in a shield form urn set within a laurel leaf wreath with date inscribed to bottom "1857"; Lady Liberty wearing the helmet of a Roman Centurion and arranging flowers in a vase; a peace dove carrying in its beak two laurel stems and flying over crossed American flag poles; and a Medieval castle facade - the decoration in green, pink, and black. Provenance: acquired by the Estate of Dr. Woody Cobbs and Mrs. Honor Cobbs, Atlanta, Georgia from Colin Strong Antiques, Naples, Florida, in a private sale on July 8, 2004.
