German, c. 1500. A Medieval period vertical rectangular wood bas relief carving depicting the Virgin Mary, Joseph, and the Christ child under an arched roof, Joseph kneeling before the standing Mary with the baby swaddled at their feet, and indistinguishable phrase in Latin to a plaque at top center. Approximately 19" x 12.375". Provenance: acquired by the Estate of Dr. Woody Cobbs and Mrs. Honor Cobbs, Atlanta, Georgia from Joanna Booth Antiques, London, England, in a private sale on September 6, 1985.
