Samuel Alcock & Co (British, 1828-1860), second quarter of 19th century. A rare 33 piece dessert service in rococo form, each piece in apple green ground with melting snow border and hand painted with botanical flower specimens in naturalistic settings, all heightened in gilt and comprising the following pieces: Twenty dessert plates, two covered sauce or condiment tureens, a large rectangular two-handled compote, four leaf-shaped single-handled serving dishes, one leaf shaped double handled service dish and three square double-handled serving dishes. Most marked in underglaze red with pattern number '871'. Approximate diameter of plates 9". Approximate width of single-handled serving dishes 9.75", depth 8.5". Approximate width of leafy double handled serving dish 11.12", depth 8.12". Approximate width of square shaped serving dishes 10.8", depth 8.6". Approximate height of covered sauce tureens 5.6", width 6.5" (handle to handle). Approximate height of compote 5.6", width 14" (handle to handle), depth 8.8".
