Thomas Gill, Gun and Sword Manufacturer (British (London), circa 1809-1816. George III officer's sabre sword with curved 29.5" single-edged blade that is finely etched and highlighted in gilt on each side with scrolled foliates, Britannia figure, crowns, and Royal Coat of Arms of the United Kingdom with Anglo-Norman motto, "HONI SOIT QUI MAL Y PENSE" (roughly translated as "shame on whomsoever would think badly of it") and "DIEU ET MON DROIT" (roughly translated as "God and my right", blade also etched with "Thos Gill 83 St. James's Strt London WARRANTED". Sabre with gilt brass guard with royal monogram with "GR" below crown, ray skin and wire grip and lion's head decoration. Sabre with coordinating leather and metal scabbard engraved with "T. Gill No. 83 James St London". Note: Thomas Gill has been recorded at 83 St. James's Street between 1809 and 1816. Length of sabre blade 29.5". A very similar officer's sword by Thomas Gill from this period sold at Christie's, South Kensington, London, Fine Antiques Arms and Armour and Sporting Guns Auction (Sale #11287) on December 17, 2015.
