English, late 15th/ early 16th century. A carved oak misericord seat with 3/4 round carving in high relief below the seat depicting the Genesis scene of The Fall in the Garden of Eden, God the Father at center holding a staff with a clothed Adam at left plucking an apple from the tree and an ashamed nude Eve crouching at His right below a flying bird. Approximate height 10.25", width 13", depth 5.25". Provenance: acquired by the Estate of Dr. Woody Cobbs and Mrs. Honor Cobbs, Atlanta, Georgia from B. I. Howard Antiques, Somerset, England, in a private sale on February 10, 2005.
