English (Nottingham), second half 15th century. A medieval Nottingham Alabaster stone carving of rectangular panel form carved in high relief depicting the Coronation of the Virgin by the Holy Trinity, at center the enthroned Mary seated wearing a single crown with proper right hand raised in gesture of blessing, the heavenly queen surrounded by standing figures of barefoot Jesus Christ, and personified God the Father and Holy Spirit, with two small angels to top corners of composition holding a large single crown over the quartet of figures below, the whole with remnants of polychrome and gilt. Approximate height 15.625", width 10.125", depth 2.125". Provenance: acquired by the Estate of Dr. Woody Cobbs and Mrs. Honor Cobbs, Atlanta, Georgia. Note: accompanied with sales receipt dated 1981 from Geoffrey Van Antiques of London, England.
