Flemish School, 17th century. A grotesque carved oak relief panel depicting the Old Testament Genesis 22 story of Abraham preparing to sacrifice his son Isaac as a burnt offering, the panel depicting the bearded old man resting one hand atop his kneeling son's head and rearing back other hand with a dagger and an angel catching the weapon in mid-air to prevent the slaughter, at lower left an altar, at lower right the ram beside a servant, at upper left a building in the distance behind trees, the panel in low and high relief with remnants of polychrome. Approximately 15" x 18.25" x 1.75". Provenance: From the Estate of Dr. Woody Cobbs and Mrs. Honor Cobbs, Atlanta, Georgia.
