English, 16th century. Carved oak wood figural pilaster (telamon or atlantid) with standing male bishop with long curled hair under mitre holding a cross with hand raised to chest above a rocky base with scrolls and cherub or putti head with wings and scrolls. Carved sculptural work supported on a later oak wall support. Overall approximate height 29.75", width 5.75", depth 3.125". Provenance: Joanna Booth, 247 Kings Road, London, England whereby acquired by the Estate of Dr. Woody and Mrs. Honor Cobbs, Atlanta, Georgia in July of 1981.
