Printed, Watercolor, and Pen and Ink-decorated "Lions and Kings" Birth Fraktur, Friederich Speyer, dated "1790," the central heart-shaped reserve with printed text filled out in pen, surmounted by a winged heart, and surrounded by freehand drawings of fancifully dressed crowned figures, birds, flowers, and rampant lions below, (foxing, minor staining, folds, small losses and tears), 13 x 16 in. , in a modern grain-painted frame with corner blocks. Provenance: Garbisch Collection; Dr. Shelley Collection. Estimate $2,000-4,000 Sheet is backed with tissue, there are paper restorations and associated in-painting to an approx. 3 in high by 5/8 in. wide area of the left edge in the area of the blue and red flower; an area of the lower right corner measuring approx. 2 1/2 in wide along the bottom edge and 4 in. high along the right edge with in-painting in the bird's tail and wing feathers; a small spot in the center associated with the fold and a small spot at about the mid point of the left horizontal fold. Minor toning and soiling, folds, short repaired tears. Items may have wear and tear, imperfections, or the effects of aging.
