Floral Needlework Sampler, England, c. 1770, stitched in silk threads on very fine linen with a central basket of flowers, surrounded by examples of needlework weaving and meandering flowering vines, in a period gilt molded frame, ht. 16 3/8, wd. 16 3/8 in. Note: Notes pasted and written on the backing paper indicate that this was stitched by Hannah Long in 1770, who was taught by Ann Drake. Estimate $400-600 There is a horizontal split in the fabric near the center of the top edge, but no other apparent tears or holes.
