Chippendale Shell-carved Walnut Armchair, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, area, c. 1760-80, the shell-carved crest with scrolled terminals, above a pierced splat, shaped arms ending in scrolled handholds, carved arm supports joined to the seat rail by ogee-shaped brackets, and trapezoidal slip seat on a beaded shell-carved frame joining cabriole legs ending in claw-and-ball feet to the round raking rear legs, ht. 40 1/2, seat ht. 17 in.
