Attributed to Adriaen de Vries (Dutch, 1550-1626) Figures and Building by a Quiet River Unsigned, attributed on a presentation plaque and on a gummed label affixed to the reverse, with a red wax collector's mark (J. Schröfl) on the reverse. Oil on panel, 18 1/8 x 24 7/8 in. (46.0 x 63.3 cm), framed. Condition: Panel with horizontal split across the middle, joined with four butterfly-shaped plugs. N.B. Lugt lists Jakob Schröfl as L. 4433, although the mark is a stamped one using capitalized block lettering. Here the mark is in red wax with script lettering. Provenance: The estate of George Way.
