Dutch School, 17th Century Five Oval Miniature Portraits of Men in Falling Band Collars, One Pointing to a Scroll Unsigned. All oil on copper, sizes to 5 x 4 1/8 in. (13.0 x 10.5 cm), four unframed, one in an oval wood frame. Condition: Minor paint losses, abrasions, craquelure, one with a small hole filled in at u.c. edge. N.B. The painting of the scholar pointing to a scroll (perhaps a Hebrew scroll) is more elaborately rendered and includes both of the sitter's hands and also a suggestion of a library in the background. Provenance: The estate of George Way. Estimate $300-500 Man with scroll has areas of paint loss along edge and top area; all with slight and scattered abrasions, craquelure. One with small hanging hole filled near top. Items may have wear and tear, imperfections, or the effects of aging.
