Frank Gehry (Canadian/American, b. 1929) "Easy Edges Wiggle Side Chair," United States, c. 1970, laminated cardboard and Masonite, unmarked, ht. 38, wd. 18, dp. 29 in. Note: Frank Gehry is a Canadian-born American architect and designer. "Easy Edges" is the name given to a series of his furniture designs from 1969 to 1973. These early designs were partially responsible for Gehry's rise to public recognition. After discovering that corrugated cardboard layered enough times in alternate directions builds strength into the piece and makes it suitable for the everyday use, Gehry created a series of pieces that take advantage of the versatility of cardboard as a medium.
