Ray (1912-1988) and Charles Eames (1907-1978) for Herman Miller "Model DAL" Armchair, Zeeland, Michigan, c. 1960, ht. 30, wd. 23 1/2, dp. 21 in. Note: The base for the DAL chair (Dining Height Armchair La Fonda Base) was developed by Charles and Ray Eames in 1961 for the legendary New York restaurant La Fonda del Sol, whose interior was designed by their friend Alexander Girard. With its central pedestal consisting of four parallel shafts that split at the bottom to form a four-star base, it is one of the most elegant and unconventional bases ever designed by the Eameses. (Vitra) Bernice Alexandra "Ray" Kaiser and Charles Ormond Eames Jr. were an American married couple of industrial designers who made significant historical contributions to the development of modern furniture. Charles was the public face of the Eames office, but Ray and Charles worked together as creative partners and employed a diverse creative staff. In 1958, Herman Miller officially began mass production of Eames designs in Zeeland, Michigan. Today, Herman Miller, along with European counterpart Vitra, remain the only licensed manufacturers of Eames furniture and products. Estimate $20-200 Minor spots/stain on fabric. Hardening of foam.
