Dale Chihuly (b. 1941) "Tabac Basket" Art Glass Sculpture, United States, last half 20th century, mouth-blown vase with abstract decoration executed in applied glass cane and rod decoration, unsigned, approx. ht. 7 3/4, dia. 9 in. Note: Dale Chihuly is an American glass sculptor and entrepreneur. He studied under Harvey Littleton at the University of Wisconsin at Madison. Chihuly earned a Master of Fine Arts degree in sculpture from the RISD in 1968. That same year, he was awarded a Louis Comfort Tiffany Foundation grant for his work in glass, as well as a Fulbright Fellowship. In 1971, Chihuly cofounded the Pilchuck Glass School near Stanwood, Washington. In 1976, while Chihuly was in England, he was in a car accident leaving him blind in his left eye. After recovering, he continued to blow glass until 1979. He now oversees the work of others at Pilchuck. Estimate $1,000-1,500 Good condition. No chips or cracks in the glass.
