Three Textile Fragments, China, 19th/20th century, two cushion covers and a pair of badges, one cushion decorated with an elephant carrying an auspicious arrangement, the other woven with a roundel of moths and flowers, the badges with butterflies and peonies embroidered in satin stitch, size to 19 1/2 x 14 in. Provenance: Descended in the family of Dr. Marshall Hertig, an internationally noted medical entomologist who conducted research on disease bearing insects at the Peking Union Medical College, from 1923-1928, his wife Edwina Smiley Hertig, and their son Bruce Allerton Hertig to the present owner.
