Louis Michel Eilshemius (American, 1864-1941) Landscape with Farmer Signed and dated "Elshemus. /1889" l.r., inscribed indistinctly on the stretcher, with an ink stamp from Valentine Gallery, New York, applied to the back of the frame. Oil on canvas, 20 x 30 in. (50.8 x 76.2 cm), framed. Condition: Minor surface grime, minor craquelure, possible varnish discoloration. Provenance: The estate of The Reverend. Canon Carlson Gerdau, New York, sold to benefit St. Mark's School, Southborough, Massachusetts. Estimate $1,200-1,800 The work might benefit from cleaning. There is some natural pigment fluorescence.
