Abel George Warshawsky (American, 1883-1962) New York, Evening Light Signed "A. G. Warshawsky-" l.l., dated, signed, and inscribed "THE YEAR 1930/A.G. WARSHAWSKY/NEW YORK" in a rooftop at left near edge, titled and identified on a label from Wiener Gallery, New York, affixed to the stretcher, with a hand-stamp and inventory number "23-9" inscribed on the stretcher and frame from Wiener Gallery, inscribed with title and identified in a later hand on the stretcher, inscribed "#9182" on the reverse. Oil on canvas, 32 x 26 in. (81.3 x 66.0 cm), framed. Condition: Craquelure to u.r. quadrant, minor varnish inconsistencies. Provenance: The estate of The Reverend Canon Carlson Gerdau, New York, sold to benefit St. Mark's School, Southborough, Massachusetts. Estimate $3,000-5,000 There is a repair in the lower left quadrant approximately the size of a silver dollar with corresponding retouch (see image of round patch with tape measure) The larger white area on the reverse may be a repair or stabilization but there is no corresponding retouch. There are several minor additional dots of retouch (see UV images). The work might benefit from cleaning. Frame is 36 1/2 x 30 1/4 x 2 in.
