Asian, likely Balinese, 19th century. Hand carved, patinated and stained wooden marriage dowry chest or jodang with rectangular hinged top above rectangular dovetailed body with three carved circular rosettes on back, front with three smaller rosettes below three carved key escutheons (central with patinated pierced metal hardware surround), hand wrought iron bale handles on sides, interior of chest with storage box within. Lower section with lappet border at top, diaper patterned flowers with scallloped leaf tip border in undulating medallions flanking eight-pointed star in circular medallion within scalloped leaf tip border supported on four rustic wooden wheels for moving case. Top chest separable from lower wheeled portion, light remnants of patination throughout form - particularly on lower section. Apparently unmarked. Overall approximate height 34.125", width 46.9", depth 21.75".
