African (Democratic Republic of Congo), likely early 20th century. Hand carved, polychrome, beaded and shell decorated tribal figural mask with pierced slit form eyes below arched black and white beaded eyebrows, sloped nose and diamond form mouth encrusted in similar patterned black and white beading, all over face with white geometric patterning in stripes and triangular motif. multicolored beads running along top edge of forehead with ridge of cowrie shells, woven brown mesh accented with cowrie shells. Overall measures approximately 11" x 5.5".
