Small "Elizabeth Clinton" Needlework Sampler, America, late 18th/early 19th century, stitched in black worsted wool threads on a linen background with five lines of alphabet and "eliZabeth Clinton aged 8y," in a mahogany veneer frame, ht. 8 1/4, wd. 7 3/4 in. Note: Consignor family lore suggests that the sampler was stitched by New York Governor George Clinton's daughter, Elizabeth.
