Federal Carved Mahogany and Mahogany Veneer Worktable, probably Portsmouth, New Hampshire, area, early 19th century, the square top above straight skirt with two cockbeaded drawers and medial shelf with scalloped gallery joining overlapped waterleaf-carved posts continuing to swelled reeded legs, ht. 30 1/2, wd. 17, dp. 16 3/4 in. A Chestnut Hill, Massachusetts, Collection Estimate $1,000-1,500 The piece has been refinished. Pulls are not original. Scallop edging appears to be original. Leg carving is original. Top drawer lacking some dividers and the lock. Top drawer slides fine. Second drawer sticks. Shelf is secure, although the joints are loose and would benefit from regluing.
