Classical Carved Mahogany and Mahogany Veneer Sofa, Boston, c. 1825-30, with carved crest rail above scrolled details and slightly outward-canting circular arms with integral sewing drawers on paneled blocks joining a rounded seat rail continuing to carved feet on casters, ht. 35 1/2, lg. 84, approx. dp. 20, seat ht. 17 1/2 in. Provenance: Peter Hill, c. 1990s. Note: A similar sofa is in the collection of the Metropolitan Museum of Art. Based on the specifics regarding the label of William Hancock, a Boston upholsterer and retailer, found on the Met's example, that sofa carries the date range of 1826-28.
