Two Drawings: Attributed to Baldassare Calamai (Italian, 1787-1851), Allegorical Scene, signed or inscribed "B. Calamai" l.l., indistinctly inscribed at the lower margin, sheet size 7 5/8 x 10 3/8 in.; and Attributed to Luigi Sabatelli (Italian, 1772-1850), Jupiter and Mercury Holding a Child, signed "Sabatelli" l.r., octagonal format, sheet size 5 3/4 x 6 1/2 in. Both ink with graphite on paper, both affixed to a common supporting sheet of paper, unframed. Condition: Scene adhered to support at corners, squared for transfer, subtle toning, soiling and staining (predominantly u.r.); Jupiter and Mercury adhered to support on left edge, mild toning, very mild scattered soiling/staining. Provenance: The estate of John Elliott, Newport, Rhode Island, and Rome. N.B. The composition of Jupiter and Mercury Holding a Child is distantly related to Sabatelli's fresco at the Sala dell'Iliade in the Pitti Palace, Florence, 1820-25.
