Three Framed Floral Works: American School, 19th Century, Waterlilies, possible faint signature l. l., oil on canvas stretched with Boston tabs, 8 x 10 in.; Attributed to William Pettigrew (American, 1834-1892), Irises, unsigned, inscribed "Petigrew [sic]/..." in pencil on the reverse, attributed on a modern label affixed to the reverse, oil on academy board, 16 x 11 3/4 in.; and Thomas Harley Dodson (American, d. 2012), Martin Frobisher Roses, signed "Thomas Dodson" l.r., identified and dated ".../ '02/..." in an inscription on the frame backing cardboard, pastel on paper, sight size 7 1/2 x 9 1/4 in. Condition: Waterlilies with retouch, abrasion, scattered paint losses, and craquelure, Irises with surface accretions, Roses not examined out of frame. N.B. Oakland-based painter William Pettigrew is credited for exhibiting a floral work depicting daffodils at Mechanics' Institute, San Francisco, in 1876. Thomas Dodson of Parsonsfield, Maine, was an award-winning pastelist who studied with R.H. Ives Gammell and exhibited at the Copley Society in Boston.
