Colt Model 1849 Pocket Revolver Identified to Lieutenant John H. Hutchinson, Company G, 3rd Vermont Volunteer Infantry, c. 1861, .31 caliber, serial number 187302 (all matching), walnut grip, silver-plated brass backstrap marked "J.H. HUTCHINSON FROM STATE OF VT./COM'D 1st LIEUT. MAY 27, 1861," light cylinder scene, barrel marked "ADDRESS COL SAML COLT NEW-YORK U.S. AMERICA," with a tin of Eley caps and a carte-de-visite of Hutchinson, barrel lg. 6 in. Note: Presented to Hutchinson by the State of Vermont upon his officer's commission. He was on detached service with the Signal Corps from February 24, 1862 to April 30, 1863, and took part in all of the campaigns of the Army of the Potomac until his discharge for disability on May 20, 1863. Estimate $800-1,200 Gun functions properly and has all matching numbers including the wedge, grip has a few dings and nicks, frame is a plum color and no finish remains on the cylinder and barrel.
