Carved Mahogany Side Chair, New York, c. 1760-80, the shaped crest rail with carved terminals and centering a foliate design, above the elaborately pierced splat ornamented with rope and tassels, and trapezoidal seat with beaded shaped rail joining frontal cabriole legs with acanthus-carved knees ending in claw-and-ball feet, (repairs and restoration), ht. 38, seat ht. 17 1/2 in. A Private Maryland Institution Estimate $400-600 much of splat facing appears original, but there is repair to the back. evidence of breaks to leg dies and stiles.
