Oil on canvas, 30 x 25 in. (76.2 x 63.5 cm), framed. Condition: Lined, retouch, fine craquelure. Provenance: Newhouse Galleries, Inc., New York; through to Sotheby's New York, British and Sporting Paintings, May 27, 2004, Lot 261; to the current owner. N.B. Theophilus Jones was a Welsh lawyer, known as a historian of Brecknockshire. Estimate $15,000-25,000 Framed dimensions are 37 1/8 x 32 1/4 x 2 3/8 in. There is retouch throughout the composition, including in the face, but the portrait has been very professionally restored. Please see black-light photos.
