Eugène Laurent Vail (American/French, 1857-1934) Bellagio Initialed "E. V." l.l., dated "1881" on a presentation plaque, identified on a handwritten label affixed to the back of the frame. Oil on canvas, 29 x 36 1/2 in. (73.5 x 92.5 cm), in a Whistler-style frame. Condition: Small stray black mark to center which may be original to the composition, scattered minor accretions, surface grime. Estimate $2,500-3,500 Two small punctures near center, gentle canvas rippling near corners. Frame with a storage label from Garde Meuble Maple dated 22-6-37 and listing the name Mme G. Vail. Framed dimensions are 37 1/4 x 45 1/8 x 2 1/8 inches. Items may have wear and tear, imperfections, or the effects of aging.
