Carl William Peters (American, 1897 or 1898-1980) Woods in Snow Unsigned, attributed on a label signed by the artist's daughter Elaine Peters Woodbury and dated "6/28/81" tucked behind the stretcher. Oil on canvas, 20 x 24 in. (50.5 x 61.2 cm), framed. Condition: Good. Provenance: The estate of the artist to the current private Massachusetts collection. N.B. The printed biographical sheet that identifies the artist gives his birth date as November 14, 1898, although most databases list the year as 1897. Estimate $2,000-3,000 Numbered "#53" on the reverse. Framed dimensions are 28 x 32 x 1 1/2 in. (The stretcher protruding beyond the frame increases the overall depth by one inch.)
