Emile Albert Gruppé (American, 1896-1978) Nude by a Pond's Edge Signed "EMILE A GRUPPE" l. r. (beneath the lip of the frame), with a small gummed label likely inscribed in the artist's hand and a fragment of letterhead from Emile A. Gruppe Gallery, both affixed to the stretcher. Oil on canvas, 24 x 18 in. (61.0 x 46.0 cm), framed. Condition: Lined, minor retouch. Provenance: A private New Hampshire collection. Estimate $1,500-2,500 Framed dimensions are 33 x 26 3/4 x 2 1/8 in. The retouch is minor and consists of a few brushmarks on the nude's abdomen which have been applied over the varnish layer.
