Kiki Smith (American, b. 1954) Holding the Wolf Signed and dated "Kiki Smith 2002" l.r., titled on labels from Galerie Lelong, Zurich, and Pace Wildenstein, New York, affixed to the frame backing. Pencil on paper with Arches dry stamp, 22 1/2 x 30 1/4 in. (57.2 x 76.8 cm), framed. Condition: Deckled edges, dog-ear creases to u.r. and l.r. corners, tears u.l. and l.l., scattered smudges and stray marks (likely from the artist's process), floated within the frame, not examined out of frame. Provenance: John L. Stewart Collection, New York, through to the current private collection, New Hampshire. Estimate $3,000-5,000 Tear at lower left measures approximately 5/8 inch. Tear at upper left measures approximately 1/4 inch. The work is affixed to the backing in two places near left and right edges, and in five places near upper and lower edges. Because the work is floated in its frame and affixed to the backing with evenly spaced hinges along the perimeter, it was not removed from the frame for examination. Frame dimensions: 24 1/2 x 32 1/4 x 1 1/2 in. Items may have wear and tear, imperfections, or the effects of aging.
