Clifton Art Pottery Indian Ware Vase, Newark, New Jersey, c. 1909, design derived from the Homolobi tribe as indicated on underside, marked "Clifton 233," ht. 8, dia. 10 in. Note: The Clifton Art Pottery was founded by William A. Long in 1906. Clifton produced several different lines, including this one featuring American Indian designs, painted with black and white slips against a terra-cotta ground. The Clifton Art Pottery lasted only briefly and in 1909 Long returned to his native Ohio, where he went on to work at the Weller and Roseville potteries. Estimate $250-350 Items may have wear and tear, imperfections, or the effects of aging.
