Sheila Hicks (b. 1934) Study for White Letter Textile, Mexico, 1962, hand-spun wool, woven, four-sided selvage finish, ht. 24, wd. 26 1/2 in. Note: Hicks received her BFA and MFA from the Yale School of Art (1957/59). At Yale, she studied under Josef Albers and her thesis, on "Pre-Incaic Textiles," was supervised by Anni Albers. Following Yale, she was awarded a Fulbright Scholarship for travel to Chile which would influence her body of work. From 1959 to 1964 she resided and worked in Mexico. Since 1964, Hicks has lived and worked in Paris, France. Estimate $3,000-5,000 Good condition. The piece is free of stains and odor. It is completely intact with no areas of loss or fraying.
