Eastern Sioux Wood and Catlinite Pipe, fourth quarter 19th century, an openwork wood stem of expanding rectangular section, each side with a slightly raised midrib and a finely incised linear design, the openwork panel with pairs of circular, linear, and heart-shaped cutouts, a pattern of burnt file markings along each edge, the catlinite T-bowl decorated with bands of lead inlay and incised with designs of two humans and a fish, with mount, lg. 45 1/4 in. overall.
