Central Plains Pictorial Miniature Wood and Hide Tipi, Lakota, c. last quarter 19th century, mounted on a round wood base (a piece now missing), painted with a courting scene, two male riders hunting buffalo with bow and arrows, a wounded buffalo, and multicolored geometric devices at the flaps, perimeter, and down the front, door flap decorated with white-center red, greasy yellow, and dark transparent blue beads, the wood framework with hide lashing near the top, remnant quill-wrapped tipi decorations, ht. 20 1/2, dia. 14 in. Provenance: Private collection, Maryland; Skinner, September 10, 2005, Lot 118; Wistariahurst Museum, collected on a reservation by General Mott Hooton in the 19th century.
