Plains Rawhide Shield with Painted Cover, fourth quarter 19th century, the cover painted in yellow, blue and black, on a green ground, with two buffalo, on either side of a central star shape, the center has traces of what looks to be a circle with crescent inside, secured by a drawstring through the worn, perforated perimeter, enclosing a thick buffalo hide shield, possibly later, with carrying straps, dia. 18 in.
