Plains Grizzly Bear Claw Necklace, early second quarter 19th century, composed of twenty-four grizzly bear claws, each pierced through the back end and center, joined together with two hide strips, each strung with large trade beads, with a long hide neck strap, the claws with smooth, dark patina, with collection label, the necklace has been restrung sometime in the past with hide cord and the beads, lg. of claw run 19 in. Provenance: Private collection, Monkton, Maryland; passed down through the family, collected circa 1845 by William Hammond while stationed at Fort Kearney, Nebraska.
