George Thompson (British, 19th century), "View of English Countryside", oil on canvas, apparently unsigned. Landscape painting depicting small period rural village, possibly near Wallingford, Berkshire, with monumental green tree in foreground, the scene with a serpentine dirt path at left with figure walking near center approaching the large tree at center of composition with two other children playing underneath, at right a stream with two small thatch roofed structures lining bank, the structures fronted by a rough wooden fence with woman beside holding a basket, the scene set at dusk with pink and blue clouded sky. Label to verso of frame with artist name and date attribution as well as alternate painting title "Children in Landscape". Label to verso of structure with information on restoration technique used by Cumberland Art Conservation, Nashville, Tennessee. Framed approximately 28.125" x 38.25". Unframed approximately 20.25" x 30.25". Note: Painting has been professionally restored.
