Italian School, 18th Century Man Carrying a Weak or Wounded Figure Unsigned, inscribed "... /Roma" in ink and with a franking stamp on the reverse. Red chalk on laid paper, 8 x 5 3/4 in. (20.0 x 14.7 cm), unmatted, unframed. Condition: Creasing, staining, bleed through of ink from the reverse, with a German customs stamp or similar on the reverse. N.B. The subject of this drawing may be Aeneas saving his father during the fall of Troy. Alternately it may relate to an unknown plague or disaster scene. It was drawn on a sheet that once served as an envelope posted to an address in Rome. Estimate $300-500 Items may have wear and tear, imperfections, or the effects of aging.
