$2,500
Pair of Heart-and-crown Bannister-back Side Chairs, attributed to Andrew Durand, c. 1730-40, the pierced splats above molded bannisters and vase- and ring-turned stiles on legs joined by sausage-turned stretchers, painted black, ht. 44 1/4, seat ht. 16 1/2 in. Estimate $1,000-1,500 The black paint has some age but is later. The back of the chairs have a white "bloom" on them for some reason - we aren't sure of the cause. There is a small repair at the top of the back of one baluster. One foot on one chair appears to not have as much wear as the bottom of the other chairs' seven feet, but the paint makes it hard to find any newer splice. The stretchers and feet have in most cases good wear. There are old worn chunks out of the sides of some feet, which are painted over. Items may have wear and tear, imperfections, or the effects of aging. Any condition statement given, as a courtesy to a client, is only an opinion and should not be treated as a statement of fact.
